Cape Lopez Lyretail

This fish belongs to the family Cyprinodontidae and comes from Gabon in West Africa.The body is pike-like, brown-red, up to 6 cm long.The gills and the front are embellished with green and blue flecks and stripes, the rest of the body and fins are covered with red dots and dashes.The male has elongated and very gaily coloured fins.The female is light brown with isolated red dots.They are peaceful and therefore it is possible to rear them with other quiet fishes of the same genus.


They procreate at a temperature of 24 °C .They spawn on to floating roots or fine-leaved plants at several days interval .The spawn is strikingly large and clings to the plants.After spawning suck them away by means of a glass tube and keep them in the original water in a shallow bowl.The fry hatch out in about ten days and mature in ten weeks.
