Glowlight Tetra

The Scientific name is Hemigrammus erythrozonus and belongs to the family Characidae and comes from  Essequibo River, Guyana . The body is fragile, thin and almost transparent.The back is an olive-yellow-green colour and from the gills to the root of the tail  there is a broad bleaming ruby stripe.The length of the body is about 5 cm.The male is slimmer than the female.

These fishes are usually bred at a temperature of 22 °C.They are not particular as to the size of the tank,the composition of water or the environment and food, They are idel fishes as companions for smaller tetras and barbs.

Procreation is successful in a small tank at a temperature of 24 °C in normal not too hard,acidic water.During spawning the fishes press up to each other and in a quick movement they turn together with their stomachs upwards. At this point the female lays five to fifteen eggs.This process is repeated several times.The fry hatch out in about twenty-four hours and after swimming away require food
